Cycling Gloves

Gloves

There is no debate on whether you need protection for your hands or not. Gloves and mitts are simply a must wear accessory. When you are out on the bike they can offer comfort for cold and sore hands, grip for clammy hands, protection against dirt, branches or grazes should you come off. They can also help dampen road and trail vibrations. There is a range of gloves and mitts to choose from, suitable for all seasons and disciplines. One ride varies from the next, so choose wisely and think about what you expect from your hand protection. Each type of glove is categorised by their intended use. However it is entirely up to the individual what suits best.

The benefits will vary - Length of the wrist cuff, thickness of the pad/gel, material used, visibility, and/or protection against the elements. Some are designed for specific disciplines. There are also male and female specific options due to the subtle differences between male and female measurements including finger length, wrist length and depth of palm.

For summer you will benefit from finger-less mitts that don't cover too much of the wrist and prevent chaffing when in riding position. You should consider the Velcro fastening and whether it offers comfort. Most mitts tend to have vented or lightweight upper material allowing air to pass through, keeping hands cool. Breathable mitts with gel pads offer the most comfort.
