JE James Cycles setting up for the day with Park Hill Flats in the background
Park Hill Flats, Sheffield
Brompton Urban Dash - A Northern Success
28th July 2018
Saturday, the 28th July, saw JE James hold their Brompton Urban Dash event as part of the Sheffield Urban CX series. Being the first northern Brompton folding bike race it promised to be a well-attended event and with the current good spell of weather, we were expecting a good turn-out of spectators.
The course was set up for the Urban CX series around the iconic Park Hill Flats with only a slight variation for the Brompton course.
With ramps, steps and portage sections, the race proved to be very challenging, giving the riders the chance to show off their speedy, folding techniques, before picking up the bikes and running some sections.
There was a good age range of both male and female competitors coming from the surrounding area with some riders coming down from towns even further North. We’re led to believe there was also some southerners taking part (Nottingham, Derby or some such exotic location).
It takes all sorts...to race a Brompton
We don't blow our own trumpet...(trombone)
Winner Andy Bishop played a blinder
And even though the day was not up to the recent glorious, sunny standards, the windy conditions did not deter the spectators who turned up in droves to cheer on the competitors, with many running from one section of the course to another, giving the riders more support and encouragement..

A delighted winner receives her prize
A long drag fails to wipe a smile
Although this was the first Northern Brompton Urban Dash, JE James Cycles are determined that, due to the success, it won’t be the last.
Further Brompton events are planned with courses taking in more local, iconic back-drops. Watch this space for further details…
