Many of the Comfort Lifestyle bikes are designed with a step-through, easy/low entry frame and are suitable for male and female, young and old. The step-through frame makes it easier to get on and off the bike. These bikes are manufactured from steel or aluminium and are usually fitted with ‘Dutch’ comfort style handlebars and offer a very upright riding position. Comfort bikes are commonly found on the continent especially Holland where bikes are hired and ridden commonly for round town riding. Many have rack and mudguards fitted and some even have a basket at the front for carrying small items of shopping etc. Some have a single gear but many have a small selection of gears at the rear (either derailleur or quite commonly internal hub gears).
Disk brakes are not usually fitted to comfort lifestyle bikes as speed and extreme terrain is not what they’re built for. A good set of rim brakes is usually fitted and for inner city commuting and short town excursions they are more than capable. The wheels on Comfort Lifestyle bikes tend to be 700c but 26” versions are also available with slightly wider tyres than is commonly fitted to road bikes. Some bikes have a kickstand enabling the rider to stand the bike without support from a wall, fence etc. Comfort Lifestyle bikes are ideal for the cycling shopper, student or everyday leisure rider who wants a bike to cover short trips in comfort with a certain style.
